“Dahlias - Above & Below the Ground” Bob Papp Bob Papp has been President of South Coast Dahlia Society for 5 years. He will tell us how to grow dahlias in our area. He will particularly discuss the importance of knowing the size and height of the mature plant. Since his climate in the south coast Long Beach area is quite similar to ours, this should be an interesting and informative meeting.

“Fat Bonsai” Cliff Meng Cliff, President of the Orange County Cactus and Succulent Society will show the Club how anyone can create an interesting and beautiful bonsai from a unique group of succulent; a new and different approach for the home gardener to produce a striking design element.

“Companion Gardening with Bulbs” Janelle Wiley Janelle has been with Sherman Gardens in Corona del Mar for thirteen years. She is responsible for designing and implementing the annual and perennial color scheme displayed in beds, pots and baskets at this very popular coastal garden. Janelle has been chosen several times by Sunset Magazine to design in floral design projects that appear in the magazine.

“Creating a Breathtaking Indoor Garden” Julie Bawden Davis Julie is the author of four books, a columnist for the Orange County Register, Los Angeles Times, Family Circle, Orange County Home. She is also recognized nationally with a wide variety of publications including the Chicago Tribune Syndicate, San Francisco Chronicle, National Gardening and numerous magazines. Julie regularly lectures on gardening throughout Southern California. She is a member of the Garden Writer’s Association of America, American Society of Journalists and Authors. She became a certified Master Gardener in 1998.

“Bringing the Largest and Most Diverse Population of Birds to Your Garden” Dave Brandt Dave Brandt is the Regional Store Manager at Mission Viejo’s Wild Birds Unlimited. The company is 26 years old with about 330 stores across North America.This presentation will center around the four steps one must take to maximize the variety of birds you might see in your garden and how to take these steps in a responsible way so as to not encourage weeds and rodents.

“Putting Spring Color in Your Garden” Evelyn Weidner Owner of Weidner’s Gardens in Encinitas, the garden is recognized throughout Southern California and beyond. Known for fabulous fuchsia baskets and their large selection of tuberous begonias, we are fortunate to have Evelyn who promises you will have the most fun, informative program of the season. Evelyn’s talk will be about adding color using containers and baskets. In addition she will bring new plants for purchase.
