FEBRUARY 2010
Preserving Our Local Native Wildlife Habitat
Emily Igarashi
The Donna O’Neill Land Conservancy in
San Juan Capistrano was established in 1990 to preserve and
protect 1200 acres of Orange County’s rapidly disappearing
native habitat.
Emily has been a naturalist since 2002 and Program Director
of the Conservancy since 2007.
She leads weeding volunteers as they remove invasive
mustard, artichoke thistle, pampas grass, and Tokolote.
In addition to introducing the different types of
native habitats on the Conservancy, she will show which
plants are invasive, talk about how we eliminate or reduce
the invasive weeds non-chemically and give examples of
ongoing projects to restore native habitats to their
original beauty.
